The history of ancient institution can be known from myths. The case of Kanichukulangara Devi temple is not distinct. There is a saying in the myth that "Aravukattamma Arinnu vannu Kandamagalathamma kandu vannu, Kanichukulangaraamma kallichu vannu"



Rituals of Kanichukulangara

Kanichukulangara Bhagavati Temple is most important one among all great temple in Kerala. The Godess grant wishes to all devotees and finds remedies to all evils very sooner at their prayer. From ancient time onwards the devotion is arranged in way that people of all caste and creed take part in it. Due to the part wise deterioration of the ancient temple the then famous Astrologist’s derived a solution at the ‘thirunada’ to renovate the temple on the basis of its science and re-installed the devi on 20-1-1987. There is different forms of sculpturing the idol foe Eshwaraupasaana by construsting the and installing the idol in the ‘Sreekovil’.



Rituals of Kanichukulangara

1.Order of one day pooja in the temple.


The senior Shanti after the bath in early morning reach the Thirunada to have his prayer and enters inside..(One should enter inside only after ringing the bell if the door is closed).He will then light the lamp and Nirmalyam(Flowers and decors of day before) is removed, and then after the idol is soaked with water for Dehashudi, Shankupoornam, Athmaradhana etc shanti decors idol with sandal, bhasmam,flower and garlands, then Thremadhurum and Malar is served. The Ushapooja and Ethruthupooja for the respective devi’s are performed. After this pooja ‘Sheeveli’ is performed as usual as in all important temples. Then Panteeradi pooja is performed. In this Navakaabishekam is perfomed. Followed by this there is Uchapooja . After this Uchasheeveli can also be performed. In some temples like Guruvayoor , Uchasheeveli is performed in the evening usually. After the Uchapooja ‘nada’ is closed. In the evening before sunset ‘nada’ is opened to light the lamp and Sandyavadanam is performed , and then ‘Deeparadhana’ is performed. After ‘Deeparadhana’, ‘Athazhapooja and is some places ‘Athazhasheeveli’ is perfomed. Some exceptional temples also perfoms a ritual known as ‘Thrpukka’. After this the ‘nada ‘ is closed.
